Objective:
Parents and guardians play a primary role in helping their children understand the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Fifty-one percent of youth with low parental monitoring drink alcohol, compared to only 10% with high parental monitoring. Thirty-six percent of youth with low parental monitoring smoke tobacco, while only 8% with high parental monitoring smoke. Adults also help young people to develop skills to resist peer pressure and choose alternative healthy activities.13 |
